COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM) — The Rocky Mountain State Games have taken over Colorado Springs. The multi-sport festival is for folks of all ages and abilities and includes some unusual games. Sunday, July 26th was the 2015 Air Hockey World Championships at Chapel Hills Mall where pros from all over came to find out who is the best air hockey player in the world.

“That’s me.” Professional air hockey player, Colin Cummings added, “I have the guts. I’m here to take down the champion right now.”

Cummings is from Houston, Texas and at just 16-years-old, he’s playing to be the youngest champion the sport has ever seen.

“This is a wonderful feeling,” added Cummings, “I’m ready to smash some skulls, whoever is coming up next.”

One key to his success is confidence.

“I am not intimidated at all. If anything they’re intimidated,” said Cummings.

And of course, practice.

Cummings said, “It took me probably around four years learning from everybody that I saw in order to get to a level where I can take down guys way bigger than me.”

But to these guys, air hockey isn’t just an arcade game.

Chris Lee, Tournament Director and Co-Founder of the Air Hockey Players Association said, “Air hockey is like any other sport. There’s a physical aspect to the sport and there’s also a mental aspect to the sport.”

It’s their life.

“Because it’s not a well-recognized sport, I mean we’re not playing for money or anything like that. It’s all about a passion for the game.” Lee added, “They’re playing to get first place so they can call themselves the number one player in the world.”

“Anybody can do it. I mean, it doesn’t matter if you’re smart. It doesn’t matter if you’re super strong, anybody can bring their own game to the table and anybody can win to me,” said Cummings.

Cummings did go on to win the 2015 Air Hockey World Championship making him not only the best air hockey player in the world but the youngest winner to hold the title.
