Warren Township fire still under investigation

Leavittsburg, OH fire spreads from garage to two houses; family suspects arson.

LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (WKBN) – Millions of people have seen a viral interview with a fire victim by 27 First News reporter Derrick Lewis.

Heather Tenney accused her cousin of starting a fire early Thursday morning that caused damage to her property, as well as her neighbor’s property. Lewis went back to the scene Monday afternoon and spoke with Heather’s husband and neighbors, who were victims of the fire.

Investigators have been working on leads, but there are still no suspects in the case. Emotions between victims are high as they try to figure out how to replace everything they lost.

It started on Dennis Tenney’s property and quickly spread next door to the Chagnot’s house.

“He whined to me about his tail light being damaged. Look at my car,” Jenny Chagnot said.

The fire has caused even more heat between the victims.

“Got a few neighbors that’s mad at me and I didn’t even cause the fire,” Dennis Tenney said.

During a live TV interview, Dennis Tenney’s wife, Heather, told Lewis who she thought started the fire.

“It was because of my cousin. He is mad because he can’t get with me. I am married to my husband,” she said.

The interview that first aired on 27 First News This Morning has millions of views across the web. Lewis reached out to Heather again for a reaction on the viral interview, but she said she didn’t want to talk anymore.

Trumbull County fire investigators have questioned the cousin, but no one has been charged yet.

“I hope they catch the one that started it because now I pretty much have nothing but what is in the house,” Ed Chagnot said.

Tenney and Chagnot have to pay thousands of dollars to replace what was damaged.

“I’ve got deductibles to pay out of the garage.I am retired. I got no extra money,” Chagnot said.

While the Tenneys are waiting for an answer from investigators, they are cleaning up the mess that was made.

“I have just been trying to pick up the pieces, and begin to start rebuilding,” Dennis Tenney said.

Investigators said the cousin was not cooperative when they questioned him.
