Authorities: Man drowns in Lake Erie in northeast Ohio

EUCLID, Ohio (AP) – Authorities say a struggling swimmer drowned after he went underwater and didn’t resurface in Lake Erie in northeast Ohio.

Rescue crews were called to the scene in Euclid at about 5 p.m. Tuesday for reports of two swimmers struggling to get back to shore. Police say one person had jumped in to save 31-year-old Christopher Hall, but became exhausted and swam back to shore.

Crews spotted the Cleveland man around 6:30 p.m. about 100 feet from shore. He was taken to Euclid Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
