Man convicted in Struthers branding incident arrested

Boardman police looking for Andrew Kocak

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – U.S. Marshals arrested a Boardman man Wednesday who they say recently got out of prison and may have stolen his mother’s car.

Police took Kocak to a local hospital after arresting him.

Andrew Kocak was sentenced in November to three years in prison for using a can of chewing tobacco to burn a Struthers teenager last year. Three others also were charged and pleaded guilty in April in the branding incident.

Kocak was released from prison last week after serving less than a year of his three-year sentence. He was granted early release.

Boardman police began to suspect him of stealing his mother’s car overnight and were concerned that he may try to harm himself or others. Police issued a warrant for his arrest Wednesday before the U.S. Marshals found him and brought him into custody.
