Police: Turnpike crash victim identified

A tractor-trailer accident on the Ohio Turnpike on July 31 resulted in one fatality.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) —  New information tonight on Friday’s deadly crash on the Ohio Turnpike.

We now know the name of the victim who lost her life.

The Ohio State High Patrol said Stacy Gardner of Massillon died when a semi truck plowed into five vehicles that were stopped in a construction zone in Austintown, near the Kirk Road overpass.

The 44-year old victim was in a Dodge Caravan with her husband and two children when it caught fire after being pushed into a guardrail.

The 23-year old driver of the semi, who is from Canada, managed to pull the man and children to safety.

Three other passengers were hurt.

They’re expected to recover and the crash remains under investigation.
