Businesses looking to send festivals to lots to avoid street closures

Officials at the Oh Wow museum in Youngstown would like to see festivals and events held in lots to avoid street closures.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Business in downtown Youngstown is growing and some are hoping the days of shutting down streets to hold events will get pared down.

OH WOW! Children’s Center for Science and Technology is located right in the middle of the action on West Federal Street. Even though the museum doesn’t see a huge dip in attendance during festivals and events, they’d like to see events such as the Italian Festival held in other parts of downtown, such as the Covelli Centre.

“Youngstown of today is much different from the Youngstown of 10, 20, 30 years ago. In our heyday, they would have never thought about closing the streets for a festival – it would have never happened. And here we are coming to that place again. There are a lot of businesses in the downtown area,” said Suzanne Barbati, OH WOW! president.

OH WOW! Will be closed Monday through Thursday of this week (August 3-7) so the staff can train on the new Inspire Works lab.
