Boardman man, convicted in teen branding, adds probation violation charge

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A judge determined Monday afternoon that there is probable cause to charge a Boardman man with violating the terms of his early release from prison after police arrested him and charged that he stole his parents’ car last week.

Andrew Kocak had been given early release last month after serving about six months of a three year sentence on an assault charge. He was one of the people convicted of using a heated can of chewing tobacco to burn and brand a Boardman teenager last year. He was sentenced in November.

Kocak remains in the county jail and will have a hearing on the alleged probation violation itself on Sept. 3.
