NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The Scrappers fell 10-4 to the Williamsport Crosscutters (28-15) on Monday night at Eastwood Field.
The Cutters jumped all over Jared Robinson (0-3) early on. They tagged him for two runs in the first and then one in the third. They also got to him for four in the top of the fourth. At one point, the Cutters led the Scrappers 6-1.
Mahoning Valley climbed back bit-by-bit, but ultimately came up very short. In the bottom of the fourth, Nate Winfrey singled to left. Winfrey extended his hit streak to nine games. The next batter was Juan De La Cruz, who crushed a two-run home run to right center. The Scrappers weren’t done yet. Jack Goihl doubled, and later scored on a Willi Castro ground out.
In the end, that was all the scoring for the Scrappers. This was an offensive hit attack against the Scrappers pitching staff, which had been so strong on the last homestand, as well as on the recent road trip. The Scrappers had won five in a row until Sunday, and now they have lost two in a row.
Eastwood Field remains unfriendly to the home team. Mahoning Valley is 6-12 at home, and the Cutters have three wins at Eastwood. Mahoning Valley was still able to do some damage against Alejandro Arteaga (4-0), as they tagged him for four runs on eight hits.
The Scrappers look to get back in the win column on Tuesday night against the Cutters. Franklyn Kilome takes the ball for Williamsport against Mahoning Valley’s Kieran Lovegrove. First pitch is set for 7:05.
