Fire erupts from semi parked in Campbell business

A tractor trailer caught fire inside Pocono Logistics in Campbell, Ohio.

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – Damage is estimated at $165,000 after a tractor trailer caught fire inside a Campbell trucking business early Tuesday morning, spreading flames throughout the building. The Campbell Fire Department continues investigating.

The fire broke out at Pocono Logistics on Madison Street just off Wilson Avenue just after 1 am Tuesday. According to a Campbell Fire Department captain, someone driving down Wilson Ave. saw smoke coming from the building and called 911 just after 1:08 a.m. When firefighters arrived, thick black smoke from the burning tires of the vehicle reduced visibility to near zero inside the building.

“Once we got in there, we started hitting what we thought was fire. We thought it was up in the attic area of the building. It turns out it was a semi burning”, said Campbell Fire Chief Nick Hrelec. There was extensive ceiling damage to the building.

A Campbell Fire Captain put the damage estimate at $100,000 to the building and $65,000 to the building’s contents.

Five departments helped put the fire out: Struthers, Coitsville, Poland, Lowellville and Springfield, clearing the scene at 6:30 a.m.
