COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – State Sen. Joe Schiavoni is working to create funding that could benefit Mill Creek MetroParks.
The city of Youngstown needs million of dollars to upgrade its wastewater system to prevent raw sewage from going into the park’s lakes. Schiavoni, D-Boardman, wants to create a state bond issue for underground infrastructure, similar to one already in place for roads and bridges.
He said communities then could apply for the money to do projects. Voters across Ohio could see a resolution on the ballot as soon as next year.
“This is an investment that we must make as a state and so I think that I will be able to get legislative support as well as the popular vote on this because people understand that if we don’t have good underground infrastructure, then these issues are going to constantly arise,” Schiavoni said.
He said a resolution is in the process of being drafted with Ohio’s Legislative Service Commission.
