Hollywood has interest in Valley locales

Royal Oaks is scene of Bar Rescue series

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The work of Spike TV’s “Bar Rescue” continued at the Royal Oaks in Youngstown Thursday afternoon.

The sign got a bit of attention as crews hustled in and out of the building. Fred D’Amico with the Youngstown Regional Film Commission said the reality show was at Imbibe Martini Bar in downtown Youngstown Wednesday night.

“As that second location for the conversation and how to mix drinks, to teach the Royal Oaks bartenders kind of what we are going to do now on opening night,” D’Amico said.

This isn’t the first time a film has been shot at the Royal Oaks. In 2009, part of the movie adaptation of Noah Cicero’s novel, “The Human War” was shot at the bar.

It seems Hollywood has an interest in the Valley, with the filming of “Fat n Furious” and “American Pickers” this fall. D’Amico said there is a lot of incentive and he helps put people in touch with the city of Youngstown to try and develop projects.

“When you go to smaller towns, it is easier. So these reality shows, especially, they like to blow in, blow out. They don’t like to have to deal with a lot of hoopla,” D’Amico said.

Officials in the community say “Bar Rescue” will be at Martini Brothers Burger Bar next week. And D’Amico said a company called Mad Media also will be in town this weekend.
