CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County OVI Task Force, in conjunction with the Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct two OVI checkpoints Saturday night.
One checkpoint will be at 4545 New Road in Austintown from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. The other checkpoint will be on Glenwood Avenue near Lake Avenue in Youngstown from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.
In addition, police officers from participating agencies of the Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be conducting saturation patrols in various parts of Mahoning County throughout the weekend.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Several agencies work collaboratively with the OVI Task Force and provide support: Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mahoning County EMA and Mahoning Safe Communities.
The checkpoint also will be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.
Motorists need to make arrangements to get home safely if they are planning on consuming alcohol.
