Storms cut power in Mercer, Lawrence

Lightning

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Strong winds and lightning accompanied thunderstorms that moved through the Mahoning Valley Monday evening.

There was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for parts of Trumbull and Mahoning Counties. It expired at 9:45.

The National Weather Service received reports of trees down On Route 7 in Hubbard and in Lowellville. Storm Team 27 also reports 2.3″ of rainfall in parts of Southington and Liberty Townships.

But the biggest impact appears to be on Mercer and Lawrence Counties. At its peak, 6,000 Penn Power customers in Mercer County were in the dark. Most of those outages were in the Shenango Valley. And in Lawrence County, 1,100 Penn Power customers were without electricity.

As of 6:45 a.m., nearly all of that power had been restored.
