YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) –  Many Youngstown families need more than a tax holiday to help pay for school supplies. So the Youngstown City Schools and community groups have gotten together to sponsor back-to-school book bag giveaways.

It’s Saturday, August 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. Children must be present to receive a book bag filled with supplies. This program is free and open to all families in Youngstown. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

There are 1500 backpacks prepared and ready to go. There will also be gospel music, food and games at the event. Madonna Chism Pinkard will be the Mistress of Ceremonies.  For more information call:  330 744-2000.

There is also a separate book bag giveaway on Wednesday, at Oakhill Renaissance Place thanks to the Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency. That effort is part of Child Support Awareness Day. There are 150 book bags to be handed out. Go to Lobby B.
