Gerberry resigning from Ohio House of Representatives

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio State Representative Ron Gerberry will be resigning from the Ohio House of Representatives effective Aug. 21, WKBN has learned Tuesday.

WKBN has obtained a copy of Gerberry’s resignation letter, dated Aug. 7 and written to Ohio Speaker of the House Cliff Rosenberger. In it, Gerberry says,

Dear Speaker Rosenberger,

This letter serves as my resignation as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. It has been an honor to serve the people of Mahoning County along with the dedicated members of the House. I appreciate the opportunities that I have been granted and will always cherish the memories and friendships that I take with me into private life.

Gerberry also sent the letter to Ohio House Minority Leader Fred Strahorn.

Neither Gerberry nor his attorney spoke to WKBN Tuesday, but the office of Franklin Co. Prosecutor Ron O’Brien released the following statement:

State Rep Ron Gerberry among other things filed false campaign finance reports at the sec (sic) of state’s office in Columbus, thus there was an offense committed in this county. As a result, Prosecutor O’Brien has been working with the AG and Mahoning County Prosecutor Paul Gains on the investigation to resolve all issues, however any  plea will occur within the next several weeks in Youngstown rather than Columbus.

Gerberry represents Ohio’s 59th district, which includes most of Mahoning County, but not the city of Youngstown. Gerberry has been a state representative for 27 years, but not all 27 have been consecutive.
