South Range’s Rohan transfers to YSU for baseball

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Penguins’ baseball coach Steve Gillispie announced today that seniors Gerrad Rohan and Billy Salem have both joined the Youngstown State program after playing their first three years at the University of Akron.

Rohan, a South Range graduate, hit .294 (48-163) in 47 games in 2015 while compiling an on-base percentage of .357 as he finished with 7 doubles. Gerrad is a former two-time All-ITCL First-Team selection. He hit .465 as a junior for the Raiders. He returned for his senior season only to collect a .445 average. Rohan played mostly infield positions while at Akron.

The Lake Catholic alum, Salem batted .260 (33-127) this past spring as he hit a homerun and had 19 runs batted in in 42 games for the Zips. Salem is a third baseman.

Youngstown State finished the 2015 campaign with a 16-34 record while closing out the Horizon League season in 5th place (9-21).
