Columbus area man accused of setting woman on fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A disturbing story out of the Columbus area. A man suspected of throwing gasoline on his girlfriend and setting her on fire is set to be arraigned on aggravated arson and other charges.

Forty-year-old Michael Slager of Gahanna also is charged with felonious assault and having criminal tools in connection with the alleged attack in the Columbus suburb on Aug. 2. His arraignment is scheduled Monday in Franklin County court.

A defense attorney previously described the woman as Slager’s fiancee and said what happened to her was accidental. The attorney also said Slager was injured while trying to put out the fire.

County prosecutor Ron O’Brien said last week that the 31-year-old woman remained in critical condition at a hospital.
