Key Losses: New Castle will be without their lone All-Conference First-Team performer D’Marqus Blanchard, who was recognized at his defensive end position as well as at his tight end spot by the league last December. Blanchard finished the year with 16 sacks and 22 tackles for a loss.
Key Returnees: Senior Daylyn Glenel returns after a solid junior campaign which saw the 5’9, 160-pound running back rip through opposing defenses for 11 touchdowns. Glenel hits holes with precision which should serve him well in 2015. Pat Minenok is back after a strong season at linebacker and splitting time at quarterback with junior Geno Stone. Senior defensive back and receiver Cameron Stone will also be welcomed back in a skill group which appears to be loaded.
Key Storyline: After a 0-4 start to the 2014 season, the Hurricanes won their final three regular season matchups to advance to the post-season for the second straight year. With many key players returning, can we see an increase in the win total and a return to the post-season?
Strengths: It’s hard not to get excited after watching the Red Hurricanes play their style of football on offense last year knowing that many of those players will return in 2015. Keep your eye on Glenel, he could have a special season if everything goes right.
Weaknesses: New Castle lost offensive linemen Stephen Wethli and Braden Mancini which has to have the staff concerned about who will block up front for an offense with plenty of undersized but skilled athletes?
Game to Watch:September 4 at West Allegheny
…Always a huge match up when the ‘Canes meet the Indians. In the season opener, many will be watching this New Castle team to see if they can continue the success they had in October of 2014.
