Group protesting to stop Lisbon church demolition

group protesting demolition of lisbon church

LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – A church in Columbiana County that holds deep roots in both the Valley’s history and that of our nation is set to be demolished.

Wednesday, a group of about a dozen people are sitting on the steps of West Beaver United Presbyterian Church blocking anyone from tearing the church down.

The entrance to the building is blocked so that no one can get inside.

Conflict over the property started last Saturday when the building was sold to Barnwoods Company, a lumber business, for $5,000.

The building shut its doors as a church about 10 years ago and now serves as a chapel.

It was built in the 19th century, and many fallen soldiers are buried at the cemetery.
