Key Losses: Greenville said good bye to their 1200-yard rusher – Nick Black (1211) – as well as their second leading ball carrier – Cody Nellis (740 yards, 10 TDs) – and top pass catcher – Andrew Jones (329 yards, 5 TDs) – from last year’s offense. On the defensive side, linebacker Zach Miller – who led the Trojans in tackles the last three years – leaves a huge hole.

Key Returnees: Senior quarterback Gage Gladysz returns for his second-year under center. Gladysz connected on 56.2% of his tosses for 672 yards and 10 scores. Gage ran the ball well amassing 277 stripes on the ground while scoring 4 times. Hunter Hause, a senior, will be looked upon to increase his production from his running back position. Hause gained 7 yards a carry and scored 5 touchdowns. On defense, Matt Crawford is back after an 87 tackle season.

Key Storyline: Many question marks surrounding so many key positions have to be weighing on the minds of the Greenville faithful. This summer, the coaching staff will seek to locate stability along both an inexperienced group on the offensive and defensive lines. After winning 22 games over the past two years, give coach Herrick and his staff time to provide an answer.

Strengths: Having a quarterback (Gage Gladysz) who has experienced success is a major plus. Being able to hand the ball off to a group of ball carriers who have been there also helps. Hause took 66 hand offs in 2014. Matt Crawford (31 rushes, 157 yards) and Casey Eells (27 attempts, 97 yards) combined for 58. Rising sophomore Canyon Eells led the team with an 8.7 yard per carry average (14 carries, 122 yards). In Greenville’s history, among players who have had at least 10 carries in a season, that was the highest total since 2009 when Dylan Zuschlag went for 9.0 yards per tote (148 carries, 1328 yards).

Weaknesses: Defensively, Greenville appears to be thin after losing so many contributors to graduation. They must replace 9 of their top 11 tacklers from 2014. Linebacker Crawford, defensive end Mason Horne (31 tackles) and cornerback Hause (39 tackles) must anchor the unit.

Game to Watch: September 11 at Slippery Rock
…Last year’s lone loss in the regular season came against the Rockets (14-7). This year, the Trojans must travel to Slippery Rock to take on the team who handed them a week two loss one year ago.
