YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Results from the fourth week of water testing at Mill Creek Park show high E. Coli levels at one of three locations tested at Lake Newport, according to the Mahoning County Board of Health.
All three samples taken at the walking bridge near Sheban Drive increased as compared to last week. The highest reading at the bridge was 1,050 coliform units per 1,000 milliliters, which is double the safe limit of bacteria for the lake. Last week, two of three samples taken at the bridge were over the limit of 525 units/1000 mL.
Rain once again this week may have played a role in the increased readings. Testing will continue for 8 more weeks.
However, the results at the Boathouse and Boat Launch have showed less pollution and were under the limit of 525 last week.
