Key Losses: Leading tackler (90) and rusher (518), Tanner Lucido graduated this past Spring leaving behind a big hole for the Eagles to fill on both sides of the ball. He was the team’s leading tackler in each of the past two years. Jared Graham went from being Grove City’s signal caller (2012-13) to being a key cog on an offense which scored 25 points and 320 total yards per game in 2014. Graham finished second in rushing (290) and first in receiving (33 catches for 574 yards). Cornerback and receiver Donny Sevin also will be missed after a strong senior campaign which saw #4 catch 29 balls (388 yards) and haul in a pair of interceptions. Lineman Ian Craig was honored by being named to the Second-Team All-Region on offense and accumulated 38 tackles on defense. Kicker Dylan Nelson booted a 33-yard field goal and only missed one extra point all last season.

Key Returnees: Junior quarterback Kameron Patterson returns after enjoying much success on offense by throwing for 1777 yards and 22 scores. Kameron also rushed for 210 stripes. D’andre Byers (64 tackles), Brandon Dennis (44 tackles) and Cordell Sanders (42 tackles) all return to their linebacker positions on defense. Senior defensive back Peter Chuzie will be welcomed back to the secondary after posting 7 interceptions a year ago. Two-way linemen Tyler Locktosh and Jared Reppart each return for their junior campaigns.

Key Storyline: Coach Mowrey begins year #2 at the helm of Grove City football. Can Kameron Patterson continue his growth as the team’s signal caller in his second season as the starting quarterback? Will the defensive unit find playmakers to replace last year’s senior standouts? “Our definition of success is to do everything we can to become the best men on and off the field that we can be,” says Mowrey. “That standard is always being set higher and we are always striving, as a program, to become better.”

Strengths: After many sophomores seeing action up front in 2014, the offensive and defensive lines are loaded with experience coupled with talent. Despite losing six starters on defense – the Eagles have Justin Orlowski (37 tackles), Nick Davies (INT) and Chuzie all back in the secondary as well as Dennis, Byers and Sanders back at linebacker. The way the defense is shaping up has to give the coaching staff room for optimism.

Weaknesses: Who will catch and run with the football this season? After losing the likes of Graham, Lucido, Sevin, and Jesse Hodge (117 rushing yards, 211 receiving yards) – a question entering camp was who will pick up the slack that they are missing this summer?

Game to Watch:September 4 at Wilmington
…Wilmington-Grove City, two schools with exceptional tradition. Both are seeking a positive start, especially the Eagles coming off a rare losing season. What a way to begin the new year with a chance at making a real statement against one of Mercer County’s best programs.
