SHARPSVILLE, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – A vigil Sunday night at the Sharpsville High School football field for a standout Blue Devils player gunned down on the streets of Pittsburgh.

Friends and family gathered to remember 22-year-old Dersean Alberty-Brown. He was the victim of a botched robbery in the East Hills section of Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon. One man has been arrested.

His aunt Sheneka Alberty says, “I still can’t believe it actually. I don’t want to believe it, but this is something we all have to go through.”

Tears, hugs, and emotional, kind words were all signs of a grieving community. DerSean is the father of a 4-year-old girl.

DerSean’s cousin Zikiea Odom says the vigil was a great way to remember him. She said, “Even though this was a tragedy, we still wanted to bring light to his life. The 22 years that we had with him, we want to honor those years.”

Family members gave a prayer and lit candles. DerSean’s mother, Tanisha Langley, says the turnout means a lot to her. “I really didn’t know that my son had this much support from the community. It feels overwhelming.”

Odom remains optimistic. “Hopefully some good is going to come out of this. Even though is bad situation, God is still going to make good out of this situation”.
