Inmate hangs, kills self at Mahoning Co. Jail

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene confirmed Tuesday that an inmate at the county jail hanged and killed himself.

Greene did not identify the deceased party but did say that jail workers found him dead around 1 p.m. Tuesday and that the inmate had been booked into the county jail on Sunday.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death. Greene said that the jail staff will also review what happened to see how the inmate was able to commit suicide.

Mahoning County Jail records show that three men were booked into the jail on Sunday, in addition to two women.
