Newton Falls citizens group wins court fight over village income tax

Newton Falls. Aug. 25, 2015

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) – Score one for a citizens group in Newton Falls working to bring back an income tax break.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the village clerk must turn petitions into the Board of Elections on an income tax referendum. Voters could decide to repeal city council’s action that did away with a one-percent tax credit for residents who pay taxes in other communities.

The Trumbull Board of Elections will research the ruling to determine when it must be put on the ballot.
