Boardman falls on the road

MENTOR, Ohio (WKBN) – A tough task for Boardman as they opened the 2015 season on the road against traditional Ohio power program Mentor who dropped the Spartans 38-7.

Unable to crack the endzone in the first quarter, the Cardinals settled for a field goal and the 3-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

With 6:45 remaining in the first half, Mentor found the endzone on the ground to make it 10-0. A touchdown pass before the half pushed the lead to 17-0.

In the third quarter, the Spartans got on the board when Koby Adu-Poku scored from one yard out to make it 17-7.

But a 74 yard touchdown pass by the Cardinals increased their lead back to 17 points, 24-7 with 4:52 remaining in the third quarter.

Mentor added two more scores later in the half to pull away for the win.

Boardman will host Cardinal Mooney in week two, debuting their new stadium.
