Bombich scores 3 times for East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) –Aaron Bombich scored the decisive 4th-quarter touchdown from 7 yards away to give the Potters a lead which they wouldn’t lose. East Liverpool won, 27-20, over Edison to begin the season 1-0.

The Potters’ junior quarterback Austin Mayfield ran for 153 yards on 27 carries and threw for 81, including a touchdown. East Liverpool gained 420 yards of total offense (339 rushing, 81 passing).

Bombich scored three touchdowns in the second half, two running and one on defense as he returned an interception 45-yards for a touchdown.

This marked the first time since 2005 that Edison met the Potters on the gridiron.

Edison turned the ball over four times. Their first-year quarterback Mark Johns completed 13 of 22 for 152 yards and 2 scores.

The Wildcats finished the 2014 season with a 2-8 mark after dropping their final four games by allowing an average of 48 points during that stretch.

East Liverpool now holds a four-game win streak against the ‘Cats.

Edison will open their home schedule next week with a match up against Carrollton. East Liverpool will welcome Indian Creek in week two.
