BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Boardman Firefighters were in the heat Saturday raising money.
The firefighters were out at the corner of Matthews Road and South Avenue for several hours.
The group raised thousands of dollars as part of their ‘Fill The Boot’ fundraising campaign.
That money will go to help people with life-threatening diseases that take away people’s ability to walk, talk and even breathe.
“The generosity of the valley is really great. They really open up their wallets, their coins, and love to give to great organizations like the muscular dystrophy association,” said Rob Ariza, Boardman firefighter.
The partnership with the association and the fire department has been going on for 60 years now.
Every penny will go to the association to help pay for wheelchairs, educational activities, as well as research.
The firefighters will also be collecting for the fundraiser at the Boardman-Mooney football game.
