Annual golf tournament benefits Rich Center for Autism

POLAND TWP, Ohio (WKBN) – An annual charity event happened Monday. It’s named for a young couple killed in a horrific plane crash 21 years ago.

The Paula and Anthony Rich Memorial Golf Tournament was held at the Lake Club in Poland. The Poland couple was killed in the crash of U.S. Air Flight 427 in Beaver County on September 8, 1994.

The event, sponsored by WKBN/WYTV, is now in its 20th year and also included a dinner and auction. All the proceeds raised benefit the Rich Center for Autism at YSU. It’s the center’s largest fundraiser.

“It’s tremendously important'” says Jacqueline Marchionda with the center. “It’s important to us as a family because it’s a great way to remember my sister and brother-in-law and it just brings us so much satisfaction that we’re able to have the funds that we need to help these children and their families through this challenge of autism.”

Organizers hopes to raise more than $200,000 from this year’s event.
