BOARDMAN TWP, Ohio (WKBN) – With the Davis Family YMCA and Saint Elizabeth Medical Center Boardman continuing to grow, ODOT has a project to alleviate some of the congestion.

There was a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday morning for an improvement project along McClurg Road in front of the two facilities. A center turning lane will be added on McClurg from Market to near Southern Blvd.

The $700,000 project also includes a pedestrian crossing at McClurg and Tod Avenue. The work also includes a new traffic signal at Market and McClurg as well as drainage improvements.

“i think it’s very important to the hospital because it’s going to improve access to our facilities as well as to the YMCA,” says Wayne Tennant with Saint Es parent company Mercy Health. “It’s going to improve safety by the widening of the road and providing that turn lane from Market past Tod Avenue.”

Work is beginning there, so there may be lane restrictions. The project should be completed next month.
