PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – A huge rally in Pittsburgh Tuesday in support of United Steelworkers negotiators. They are working hard to hammer out new contracts for employees at ArcelorMittal and U.S. Steel.

With contracts expiring with the two companies as of 11:59 Tuesday night, thousands of steel workers marched in the streets. The two sides remain far apart on new deals, but union leaders say some progress has been made in the past few days. Talks have been going on since June.

Christopher Rouquette, Treasurer of USW Local 9121 from Louisiana, says “We’re just trying to bring back a fair contract for our workers and ArcelorMittal just keeps wanting, wanting, and wanting and don’t want to give nothing.”

USW members say management is demanding unfair and unnecessary concessions from workers at ALL their companies. ArcellorMittal employs nearly 180 people at its Warren plant.
