BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – With Boardman and Cleveland Brown legend Bernie Kosar in attendance for the opening of their brand new stadium, the Boardman Spartans fell to the visiting Cardinal Mooney Cardinals 31-6.

With 7:01 remaining in the first, Jack Lynch connected with David McDowell from 26 yards out to put the Cardinals on top 6-0.
With 4:31 remaining in the half, Lynch called his own number, rushing 11 yards for the touchdown to increase the Cardinals lead to 12-0.
With 7:23 in the third, Mooney struck again. Andrew Armstrong hauled in a 50 yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 18-0.
Then with 4:13 remaining in the third, Lynch and McDowell connected for the second time this time on a 33 yard pass to make it 24-0.
In the fourth quarter, the Spartans found the end zone on a 10 yard touchdown catch by Travis Koontz, cutting into the Cardinal lead 24-6.
Then it was Mooney once again. With 5:35 remaining in the game, Ray Anderson broke though the Spartan defense and streaked 67 yards down the field to increase the lead to 31-6.
The Cardinals dominated the total yard battle 361 yards to Boardman’s 135 yards.
Jack Lynch led Mooney’s passing attack completing 7 of 9 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Boardman’s top passer was J.R. Ryan, who completed 6 of 12 passes for 68 yards and one touchdown.
Ray Anderson led the Cardinals with 13 carries for 111 yards and one touchdown. Mario Graziani led the Spartans on the ground with 21 carries for 73 yards.
