Sheriff’s office: Woman drowns in pond at northern Ohio park

LAGRANGE, Ohio (AP) – Authorities say a 31-year-old woman has drowned in a pond at a northern Ohio park.

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office says someone called 911 on Friday evening to report that a woman who had gone into one of the ponds at the Carlisle Reservation in LaGrange appeared to be in distress. Two witnesses entered the water but were unable to find the woman.

Sheriff’s officials say a dive team recovered the woman’s body. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. Officials say she was from Elyria but didn’t release her name pending notification of her family.

The drowning is under investigation. Officials say a man had accompanied the woman to the park but left the scene before officers arrived.

LaGrange is about 30 miles southwest of Cleveland.
