Wilmington earns first win over Grove City

After Friday's postponement, the Greyhounds held on for a 38-28 win Saturday.

Wilmington, PA (WKBN) – The Wilmington football team kept their momentum going Saturday for a 38-28 win over Grove City in their season opener.

The Greyhounds led 14-7 Friday before the game was postponed due to rain. The game resumed Saturday afternoon in the 2nd quarter, and the Eagles struck first. Kameron Patterson found Nick Davies for a 26 yard touchdown to tie the game at 14.

But the Hounds would respond on their next drive. Spencer DeMedal hit Bryson Verrelli on a screen that went 17 yards for a touchdown. Wilmington led 24-14 at half.

The Eagles cut into the deficit early in the 3rd on another Davies touchdown but later, Jack Patton countered with a touchdown for Wilmington to wide their lead once again.

The Greyhounds improve to 1-0 and face Mercer next Friday at home. Grove City will host Corry in Week 2.
