NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Police officers and firefighters were treated to a special lunch courtesy of Olive Garden on Monday.

The restaurant has delivered meals to emergency crews on Labor Day for 14 years. The meals are the restaurant’s way of honoring local heroes and saying thank you for the ongoing, dedicated service to the community.

Those on the receiving end say they are thankful for a good meal.

“It’s really unexpected, and we really appreciate the effort it takes to make all this food and have it delivered here for us working on the holiday,” said Captain Todd Thomas of Trumbull County Coverage.

More than 800 Olive Garden restaurants nationwide deliver “thank you” lunches on Labor Day.
