WELLSVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – The boyfriend of a Wellsville woman who police say was starving her children appeared in Columbiana County Court Tuesday.

A judge arraigned Jason Thompson, of Mercer, Pa., Tuesday on a charge of child endangering, setting his bond at $100,000. Thompson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.

Prosecutors charged Thompson’s girlfriend, Jaimie Emery, 34, last week after her 8-year-old son showed up to school underweight, with his ribs showing through his skin. The boy said he was given only one meal a day and that withholding food was used as a punishment.

Emery also appeared in court Tuesday, where she entered no plea and had her preliminary hearing bound over to the Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas.

Emery has two other boys, aged 7 and 10, in the home and a 9-year-old daughter currently in foster care due to a sexual assault charge pending against Emery’s father, according to Emery.
