YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Legal fighting surrounding the Youngstown City School district has one group issuing a call to prayer.

While the Youngstown City School Board is suing the state over the controversial Youngstown plan, Reverend Gary Frost of the Southern Baptist Convention said it is easy to lose sight of the real issue.

“It seems like we’ve kind of lost the point, and it seems like the kids are getting lost in the mix,” Reverend Frost said.

Frost has started the It’s About the Children campaign with other city church leaders. He said the first step to improving the schools is to pray.

“Just to seek God’s face on behalf of the children. We’re not taking sides, we’re not going to say who’s right, who’s wrong. Our whole purpose is to focus on God’s intervention in the midst of this,” Frost said.

Dr. Rosie Thompson Taylor said people of church have a responsibility to care for students in the city.

“Just like we have to be the best stewards of all of thethings that he has given us, we need to be best stewards of the children that he has given us also,” Taylor said.

The group will hold a public prayer rally for the school district in front of the Nathanial Jones Federal Courthouse at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“We feel that if we pray, God will answer our prayer, and our prayer will be specifically for the children,” Taylor said.
