East’s defense clamps down on Liberty

Youngstown East defeats Liberty

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – East registers their first win of the season after shutting out Liberty on the road, 14-0. Leon Bell finished with 70 rushing yards on 16 attempts. Larry Reed and Mike Lawrence had 32 and 33 yards on the ground, respectively.

The Panthers’ James Boatwright connected on 4 of 9 passing for 45 yards. Imoni Donadelle caught all 4 of Boatwright’s strikes.

Liberty has opened the 2015 season by being outscored 83-7. The Leopards rushed for 27 yards as a team and passed for 80 (107 total yards). Junior Blair gained 37 stripes on 8 carries. Liberty’s quarterback Andre Bowers tossed 7 completions on 17 attempts for 80 yards. Bowers’ favorite target was JaShaun Whitman, who caught 5 passes (48 yards).

East (1-2) will travel to Niles to take on their old coach Brian Shaner and the Red Dragons next Friday. Liberty (0-3) will play at Brookfield, a team who they haven’t faced since 2008.
