YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The return of Youngstown native Bo Pelini to Youngstown State University has given a spark to the Penguins football program.
Outside Stambaugh Stadium Saturday, all the talk was about the Cardinal Mooney alum and his first home game as head coach.
Tailgaters were most excited about Pelini’s coaching history, coming from a Big Ten powerhouse in Nebraska. They’re also hoping that more top high school players stay in the area to play for Pelini at YSU.
“The last three, four years, we lost a lot of good football players to these other schools, and now they are changing,” said Lenny Dipinto, YSU season ticket holder.
“I believe in Bo Pelini, who is really a good coach and a really good, smart person,” said Richard Zebrowski, YSU Penguin Club member. “I think he will bring credibility to the team and to the school.”
