YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown East football team picked up its win of the season last Friday night. The victory was due in large part to the Panther DEFENSE…and the senior leadership of a Big 22 Contender.
Youngstown East linebacker TaBrian Donlow was a force to be reckoned with for the Panthers… He racked up 10 tackles, 7 solo, and 3 for loss against Liberty Friday night… Donlow also added TWO sacks in the 14 to nothing shutout.
“I think that when i+I’m performing well, everybody else performs well as well,” Donlow said. “If I’m at my best, everybody else is gonna be at their best as well. I just try to go out there and knock heads off every play. That’s what I try. I try to do my best at that. Leave my mark on the field and let them know that i’m here,” he added.
Panthers’ Head Coach P.J. Mays had plenty of praise for Donlow’s efforts.
“He’s our quarterback on the defense,” Mays said. “He does a great job of making sure that everyone knows where they’re at and what they’re supposed to be doing. So, it does inspire the other guys to try to get to his place mentally on our defense.”
Here’s a look at some other outstanding performers in Week 3… Mathews running back Bryan Leipply racked up over 250 yards rushing against Southington on Friday night.
Zach Hicks had another big game for Crestview… finishing with 215 yards on the ground and 4 touchdowns against Alliance.
And Big 22 veteran Lynn Bowden scored five total touchdowns in the Raiders shootout victory over Massillon.
