Services held for officer who died from ALS

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Monday, people are coming together to honor and remember Sergeant Brian Newhard, who died Wednesday after a battle with ALS.

Hundreds of people paid their respects Sunday, during calling hours.

Sergeant Newhard leaves behind his wife Jenny, and their three young children.

His funeral is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Highway Tabernacle Church in Austintown, at the corner of Kirk and Raccoon Road.

Newhard worked with both Jackson Township and Mill Creek Park Police.

Newhard had been diagnosed with the fatal form of muscular dystrophy, known to many as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in late August, but had been suffering the effects since earlier in the summer.
