Jury seated, trial begins for Canfield teacher

The trial for Canfield Middle School teacher Douglas Dawson began on Tuesday.

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A jury was seated and the trail began Tuesday for a Canfield teacher accused of domestic violence.

Douglas Dawson, 47, is facing charges of domestic violence, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

The incident happened on Thanksgiving Day at his house. According to a police report, Dawson and his wife and their children had just returned from visiting family near Pittsburgh when a fight ensued between Dawson and his wife over their oldest son’s behavior. Dawson’s wife told police he put her in a reverse headlock and was lying on top of her on the bed when their younger sons intervened.

Dawson was a teacher at the Canfield Village Middle School.

He was banned from school grounds while the case was investigated, and is now working in a role where he has no contact with students.
