YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown Bishop George Murry will be among hundreds of Catholic religious leaders attending a summit in the Vatican next month.
The bishop is one of nine from the U.S. and more than 400 around the world invited to attend what’s being called “The Synod on the Family” in Rome.
Murry said the three-week event will focus on issues impacting families and religious life in various countries and how the church can become more involved.
“What it says is that the head of the church realizes the importance, the strategic importance, of the United States,” Murry said. “And he wants to come and visit, that’s what a pilgrimage is. He comes to visit the people of the church of the united states.”
In addition to the services in Washington and Philadelphia, Pope Francis will also lead mass in New York City, as well as addressing a joint session of Congress.
