NC police resigns over Black Lives Matter Facebook post

A Surf City police chief resigned after a Facebook post about Black Lives Matter.

SURF CITY, N.C. (CNN) – A North Carolina Police Chief stepped down Tuesday after he posted concerns about the Black Lives Matter movement on Facebook.

In the post, Chief Mike Halstead called the movement “an American-born terrorist group,” and said the government needs to step up and put a stop to it.

Halstead also said the movement glorifies criminals. Town manager Larry Bergman explained the reason for the post.

“He felt pretty passionate about it. Someone had just been murdered in Texas, and it was in relation to that incident,” Berman said.

Texas deputy Darren Goforth was shot and killed last month in Houston.

The town council voted to pay Halstead 60 days severance.
