Girl, 16, charged as adult in gas attack on school guards

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police say a 16-year-old girl poured gasoline on two western Pennsylvania high school security guards and unsuccessfully tried to ignite it using a grill lighter.

Wilkinsburg student Imani Knight-Brantley was jailed after being charged as an adult and arraigned Tuesday on charges including aggravated assault and risking a catastrophe.

Wilkinsburg police say the girl returned to school angry on Monday because of a confrontation Friday with one of the guards who, she claims, called her names and put her in a headlock during the earlier incident. The company that provides the guards didn’t immediately return a call for comment, but a school spokesman says the guard – who was working Tuesday – likely won’t return Wednesday while officials continue to assess the situation.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for the girl.
