Changes in Himrod Expressway bridge project

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – There are big changes happening with the Himrod Expressway project that could affect your drive to and from work downtown over the next week.

The ramp from Himrod Avenue to southbound Route 7 and westbound Route 62 reopened last week. It had been closed for several months.

Starting Friday, ODOT says two ramps on the other side of the expressway are set to close. That includes the off-ramp from northbound 7 and eastbound 62 to Himrod Avenue. Also, the South Avenue on-ramp will be closing.

Ahead of that, the contractor will do some overnight work from 10 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday that will completely close the expressway in both directions between I-680 and Himrod Avenue.

The bridges over the Mahoning River and the railroad tracks are being replaced in a $17 million project. The entire project will take another 14 months.
