YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Red and white socks were hitting the pavement in Youngstown Sunday. It was the inaugural McDonald’s Sock Run through downtown. Proceeds went to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley and Western Pennsylvania. A local McDonald’s owner said the event was about helping out kids through the charity as well as promoting fitness goals.

“We recognize that we have to do more to stay fit. We have to eat right. We have to exercise. And we at Mcdonald’s take that very seriously,” said Herb Washington, McDonald’s owner/operator.

Those red and white socks were also on the feet of some cyclists riding through the course. McDonald’s said all the proceeds raised Sunday will stay in the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys.
