STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – A group of parishioners from Struthers returned early Sunday evening from Philadelphia after spending the weekend in the “City of Brotherly Love” to see Pope Francis.
Priscilla Carlucci said it was a trip of a lifetime.
“Our journey was fabulous, absolutely fabulous,” she said. “Pope Francis is one-in-a-million. He is a people person.”
The Saint Nicholas Altar and Rosary Society of Christ Our Savior parish in Struthers sponsored the sold-out trip. Carlucci said two buses took 88 people from across the state to Philadelphia.
“We started out with one bus of 50. Then, it just kept growing because people from all over wanted to go,” she said.
Barb Eggleston, who went along on the trip, said the crowds were massive, especially on Sunday.
“We came at 12:30, 1 p.m. into the area. There were already blocks and blocks and mobs of people.”
