YSU Police investigating attempted robbery on campus

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State University Police are investigating an attempted robbery of a Youngstown State University student at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said the student was walking on the sidewalk between Ward Beecher and the Maag Library when she was approached by a man, who attempted to grab her backpack.

YSU Police Sgt. Dennis Godoy said the woman was able to get away from her attacker, who he said did not have a weapon.

“He attempted to take her book bag, and in the process, she was able to get away… She kicked his foot. She actually kicked him in the private parts, and he ran away,” Godoy said.

The student was uninjured during the incident.

Police described the suspect as a dark-skinned Hispanic or Arabic man, approximately 5’5″ or 5’6″  tall. The man ran south on foot after the incident.
