YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Sister Jerome Corcoran of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown is the 2015 Pioneer Award recipient.

Sister Jerome was honored on Friday at William Holmes McGuffey Elementary School’s Founder’s Day program.

The Founder’s Day event, as well as the Pioneer Award, is presented annually by the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society.

As part of the program, the school celebrated Sister Jerome’s accomplishments in education, as she approaches 100-years-old.

She founded the Mill Creek Community Center and Youngstown Community School. Sister Jerome’s current mission is helping needy families.

She offered advice to others during the award’s ceremony.

“Trust in the Lord. Have your goals. Work hard. Try not to get too distracted and pray,” she said.

The William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society also presented Sister Jerome with a check for $1,000.
